Square root of a number means the number you have to multiply by itself to get the number you are looking for (the square). The square root sign is written “√”.
Example:
9 is the square and 3 is the square root to 9 because 3 * 3 = 9.
100 is the square and 10 is the square root to 100 because 10 * 10 = 100.
√16 is 4 because 4*4 = 16
